      <title>Briese Research Award</title>
      <description>MARUM  researcher Dr. Tobias Goldhammer receives the Briese Research Award 2011 for his excellent PhD thesis.  The award worth Euro 5,000 is donated by the shipping company Briese. Briese manages the medium sized German research vessels.</description>

      <title>Open Ship &lt;I&gt;JOIDES Resolution&lt;/I&gt;</title>
      <description>The US-American drilling vessel &lt;I&gt;JOIDES Resolution&lt;/I&gt; finished expedition 339 in Lisbon. 600 politicians, scientists, and students visited the vessel during the port call. MARUM organized a very well attended media conference and a tour of the vessel for journalists. </description>

      <title>Bighorn Basin Project</title>
      <description>From January 9 to 27 sixteen scientists from four countries meet in the Bremen Core Repository of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. They analyze 917 metres of core which were drilled in Wyoming last summer in the framework of the Bighorn Basin Project.</description>
