Research
Research Group for "Earth System Modelling and Analysis"
Research interests are in Earth System Modeling, Theoretical Oceanography and Meteorology, and in the field of Dynamical System Theory. One focus of my research is to identify driving mechanisms for paleo and future climate change. This is done through numerical models of the Earth system and statistical analysis of instrumental and proxy data. One special area of my research is focussed on the role of the global oceanic thermohaline circulation for recent and paleo climate variations. The identification of resonances and thresholds in the system allows an estimate of possible future climate shifts.
