Bremen PhD Days in Marine Sciences 2012

Dear Bremen PhD students in the field of marine sciences,

we hereby cordially invite you to this years "Bremen PhD Days in Marine Sciences 2012". The PhD Days will offer you the opportunity to present your research to other PhDs within the Bremen science community, network and share your experience gained throughout your studies. Topics will range from the deep-sea to the coast and from natural to social sciences.

This year, the PhD Days will be held on April 18-19 at Schloss Etelsen (20 min SE of Bremen) giving us the opportunity to establish contacts not only throughout the programme but also during get-togethers in the evening. Costs of accommodation and food will be covered for all participants.

We welcome oral and poster presentations of your projects, as well as group presentations on interdisciplinary topics. The group presentations should illuminate the relevant topic from various perspectives/disciplines and thus convey a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Group presentations are limited to 30-45 minutes. Please indicate in the registration form the topic(s) you prefer to take part in (topic examples in the registration form). Once you submitted your preferred topic, we establish contact to other PhDs interested in same topic and provide any information you need.

For those of you at the beginning of your studies, please note, that registration is also possible without presenting your research. However, we do highly encourage you seizing this opportunity to train for presentations at international conferences (e.g. the EGU is a week later, giving a same/similar presentation is possible).

If you want to participate in the Bremen PhD Days, please fill in the attached registration form and send it to Eva Kwoll (e-mail address) until February 5, 2012.

You can either travel directly from MARUM with the GLOMAR bus or take the train (Nordwestbahn; main station Bremen – Verden) and we’ll pick you up at the Etelsen train station. The train is free with the ‘Semesterticket’. Please indicate on the registration form which way of travelling you prefer.

  • Please keep in mind that the presentations should be designed for a broad audience of various fields! Talks will be limited to 15 min. presentation and 5 min. discussion.
  • The best talk and poster will be awarded based on scientific content, understandability to a broad audience and presentation style.
  • Childcare can be provided during the conference. If you need childcare please contact Jutta Bülten (e-mail address) before February 5, 2012.
  • GLOMAR PhDs: please note that holding a talk, presenting a poster, or participating in a group presentation is mandatory.

Trying to create a forum for PhD students in the marine sciences providing ample chances for exchange and networking, we hope that as many as possible of you will participate.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Kind regards,
Your PhD Days Committee (Sebastian, Eva, Anita, Andreas, Ferdinand, Jan, Maria)
