METRO: Autoclave Technology
The preservation of the in situ pressure and temperature conditions during sample recovery and storage is a major prermise for the investigations on natural marine gas hydrates. For this purpose two tools have been constructed, build and applied during the preceding project OMEGA by the Department of Marine Technology at the Technical University of Berlin. The Multi Autoclave Corer (MAC) is similar in operation and size to a conventional multicorer. It can recover up to four cores with a maximum length of 60 cm. During the deployment the cores are transferred into pressure chambers which can be removed from the MAC after recovery and used for investiagtions like CT or degassing.
The Dynamic Autoclave Piston Corer (DAPC) is operated like a piston corer recovering cores with a length of up to 230 cm.
