Initial sampling and analyses
In addition to the usual hard rock/soft rock sample requested from the split core and taken during the Onshore Science Party in Bremen, shipboard scientists (microbiologists, sedimentologists, physical properties specialists, geochemists) will most likely already take samples offshore.
De-ionized / sterile water is available on request from one of the laboratory containers. All chemicals and equipment needed offshore for sampling must be indicated in the relevant sampling request.
Because most of these analyses are sensitive to the geochemical nature of the material it is important to keep the area outside the container acetone-free until the shipboard scientists and the curator have finished taking their samples. All samples taken should be recorded in the database (offshore DIS).
