Structure

The structure of the graduate school comprises four research areas that provide the framework within which the individual PhD student finds the scientific support and training needed to become an excellent scientist with a broad interdisciplinary understanding. Once accepted to GLOMAR, PhD students become choose the Research Area that best represents their research topic.
Each research area is under the supervision of an associate scientist who is an expert in the respective field. The associate scientists organise monthly research seminars, expert courses relevant to their specific research theme, and serve as theme-related contact partners for the PhD students. Furthermore, they facilitate networking with 'their' group of PhD students and the exchange between the research themes.

Research Area A

"Ocean and Climate" more...

Research Area C

"Marine Ecology and Biogeochemistry" more...

Research Area B

"Coastal Zone Processes" more...

Research Area D

"Challenges to Society" more...

The four GLOMAR associate scientists organize monthly research seminars for each GLOMAR Research Area. Participation in these meetings is a mandatory component of the GLOMAR curriculum for PhD students.

The seminars offer an exceptional opportunity to exchange research experiences, discuss with PhD students with different backgrounds and train professional skills. Moreover, PhD students are very welcome to contribute their own ideas to the seminars.
