The area south of South Africa has been intensively studied since this region is a critical gateway for the exchange of water masses from Atlantic, Indian and Southern Ocean. Increase or decrease of this exchange leads to strengthening and weakening of the Atlantic meridional overturning and associated variation of North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) formation. The recent seismic observations indicate that the currents in this region were highly variable. For a better understanding of the temporal evolution of sediment transport pattern and the associtated palaeocirculation south of South Africa, the Regional Ocean Modeling (ROMS) is applied. It is coupled with a sediment transport model.
