Admission
GLOMAR offers a structure for students who have already started with their PhD project in marine science (see I).
At irregular intervals, GLOMAR announces open positions for individual PhD projects (see II).
(I) PhD students employed at the University of Bremen
or at any of the institutions associated with GLOMAR, may apply for admission within the first 6 months of their PhD period.
The application must include the following documents:

- Application form (see documents)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Motivation letter (please include an explanation why you would like to become a member of GLOMAR)
- Description of your PhD project
- Letter from your supervisor confirming that (a) you have been selected in a competitive selection process, (b) the supervisor is willing to share your supervision with a thesis committee and (c) she/he agrees that you are expected to follow the graduate school’s curriculum
Registration deadlines are 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October
Applications should be submitted according to those quarterly deadlines after which they will be sifted.
Applications are accepted only if submitted within the first 6 months of the PhD project. This 6 months period has been defined to give the PhD students enough time to follow the GLOMAR curriculum and to secure early involvement of a thesis committee.
On acceptance both, the PhD student and the supervisor, become members of the respective assemblies of the Graduate School.
Please note that you can only be a member of one graduate school / graduate programme.
GLOMAR has a lot to offer to its students. In order to keep up the high quality of our programme, there are some expectations we have. When applying to the Graduate School, please make sure you are aware of your responsibilities as a GLOMAR student.

In addition, at irregular intervals GLOMAR offers
(II) fully funded PhD fellowships
These fellowships are granted to outstanding students who submit an outline for a ‘self-designed’ PhD research project following a GLOMAR call for applications.
Please note that fellowships can only be granted to students who have not started with their PhD project yet.
