Research Topic

Morphodynamic Equilibria of Coastal Systems

In the proposed thesis, the complex interaction of morphology and hydrodynamics under the influence of single or multiple extreme storm events versus average conditions shall be deciphered using a process-based numerical modelling approach. Here the well monitored, wave dominated, low energy Tairua and Pauanui beaches in New Zealand, with highest waves occurring during ex-tropical cyclones or mainly swell that is generated by Pacific cyclones, shall be inter-compared to open high energy wave and tide driven beaches of the German North Sea barrier islands.
