A true "First"

A TRUE "FIRST"

Scientists, technicians, navigators, ice and weather experts have been preparing for this complex expedition for the past several years. These preparations will culminate near Spitsbergen around August 10, 2004, with the rendezvous of three icebreakers. After a ten-day transit to the Lomonosov Ridge at 88° North, just 250 kilometres from the North Pole, coring operations will then be carried out for 25 days. After coring, and another 10-day transit home, ACEX will conclude operations in the Norwegian port of Tromsö. The retrieved sediment cores will be analyzed and archived at Bremen University, in Germany.
