November 27 - 30, 2007, Bremen

GLOMAR/MPI course:

Multivariate analyses of ecological data
Alban Ramette, MPI Marine Microbiology, Bremen

Objectives
This advanced course of 4 days is part of the research training for PhD students of MarMic MPI and GLOMAR. The objective of the course is to give some practical knowledge about how to analyse multivariate datasets in ecological studies for students with little mathematical background. Day 1 focuses on the basics of dataset exploration, Day 2 ddresses simple ordination and cluster analysis, Day 3 deals with constrained analyses and multivariate hypothesis testing, and Day 4 introduces more advanced concepts such as the analysis of spatial (multivariate) datasets. The course will offer both theoretical explanations involving the main concepts underlying the statistical procedures and practical exercises using examples from different realms of ecology.

Course schedule
Morning (10.00-12.30) and afternoon (13.30-16.00) sessions.

Location
Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Celsiusstrasse 1, Bremen. Main lecture room and room 4021
