Introductory Course in Marine Sciences

Objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce to the main fields of marine sciences, i. e. physical and chemical oceanography, marine and benthic ecology as well as marine geochemistry and paleoceanography. The programme is multidisciplinary, i. e. all disciplines will be discussed as components of one integrated system.
Topics
o the physics of ocean circulation, waves and tides
o the chemistry of seawater and benthic processes
o the biology of pelagic ecosystems
o the basics of paleoceanography
o socioeconomic aspects of marine research

The Open University Series, Pergamon Press
Course schedule
Morning (9.00-12.30) and afternoon (13.30-17.00) sessions
including a student seminar for presenting the own research.
