White Papers

The purpose of this "Call for White Papers" is to solicit inputs from the scientific community (as well as from any other interested party) on future targets for scientific drilling in the oceans. White Papers will be used in working group discussions during INVEST and in the preparation of the conference report. The submitted White Papers will be considered public material, which will be posted on the INVEST webpage and listed as appendix in the conference report.

Guidelines
White Papers should describe scientific studies, ongoing technological developments, new instruments or facilities, observatory designs, needed technological developments, or any other recommendations or information that can support shaping the future of ocean drilling. They should focus on the scientific goals that need to be addressed in a general and specific way and on the necessary techniques. White Papers should be related to conference or working group themes or else be a general thematic value; they should not constitute complete implementation plans of specific expeditions.

White Papers are solicited both from individual scientists and from teams. A given individual author is allowed to submit more than one White Paper. Attending INVEST is not mandatory for persons submitting White Papers.

White Papers must not exceed five A4 pages of text, plus references and figures, and must be written in a font not smaller than 12 pt in size. They should include a cover page, containing the title, authors, affiliations, and an abstract of maximum 300 words.

In your White Paper state as succinctly as possible:
- the research focus or technology to be developed;
- the expected new outcomes and capabilities; and
- the path to achieving your goals
