Past stability of Greenland Ice Sheet

The project “Past stability of Greenland Ice Sheet” is focusing on the understanding of past and present climate-ecosystem-biogeochemistry feedbacks in the Arctic realm. In this project we investigate the response of Arctic cryosphere and marine ecosystems to global and regional climate variability. The main focus of the project is the recovery of new sediment cores from the Baffin Bay using the MeBo200 drilling device in September 2022. If successful, these new sedimentary records will allow to generate a chronology of environmental change and sediment deposition across partial collapses of the Greenland Ice Sheet during warm interglacials. Currently, we are preparing the research cruise MSM111 and generating a route map for the analytical procedure of the material obtained during the expedition.
