Bremen PhD Days in Marine Sciences 2011
In order to foster the PhD networking at the University of Bremen, we - a group of marine science PhD students representing a variety of Bremen University departments and independent research institutions - invite you to the "Bremen PhD Days in Marine Sciences 2011". The PhD Days offer all Bremen PhD students in the wide field of marine sciences (from the deep-sea to the coast and from natural to social sciences) a floor to present their work and to establish contacts to other PhD students working on similar topics.
The PhD Days will take place on April 13 and 14, 2011, in the main lecture room (no. 2070) of the MARUM, Leobener Strasse, Bremen University Campus. There is space for oral presentations, poster presentations, as well as interdisciplinary group presentations on specific topics (see below). Furthermore, a social get-together on the evening of the first day will also contribute to the establishment of a Bremen marine sciences PhD community covering a broad set of disciplines and experiences.
If you want to participate in the Bremen PhD Days, please fill in the attached registration form and send it back until March 1, 2011, to Ines Voigt (
) or to Bevis Fedder (
).
A talk will be limited to 15 minutes presentation time plus 5 minutes discussion. Please keep in mind that the talks should be designed for a broad audience of various fields! By the way, the three best talks and posters will be awarded with some nice prices.
Alternatively, you may choose to participate in one out of five topics for interdisciplinary group presentations. Available topics are:
- Piracy,
- Garbage contamination of the oceans,
- Big achievements in marine sciences within the last decade in Bremen,
- Marine protected areas, and
- Natural and anthropogenic carbon sequestration and storage in the oceans.
You will find more details about the available topics in the registration form.
These group presentations should illuminate the relevant topic from various perspectives/disciplines and thus convey a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Group presentations are limited to 30-45 minutes. Please indicate in the registration form the topic(s) you prefer to take part in. Once you submit your preferred topic, we establish contact to other PhDs interested in same topic and provide any information you need.
Trying to create a forum for PhD students in the marine sciences providing ample chances for exchange and networking, we hope that as many as possible of you will participate.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Kind regards,
Your PhD Days Committee (Ines, Bevis, Anna, and Janna)
