Research Fields

Several research groups and laboratories at the Faculty of Geosciences, the Research Center Ocean Margins and Bremen Core Repository of the Ocean Drilling Project are working in the field of paleoenvironmental research. By analysing and modelling past climates and environments on different time-scales during the last ca. 100 million years, these researchers want to contribute to achieving a better understanding and prediction of the Earth´s present and future climate and environment, one of the key research fields in the natural sciences which is crucial for future societies. Marine sediments provide the best and most complete archive of the history of the Earth´s environment.

Interested European scientists are invited to conduct research projects within the general field of paleoenvironmental reconstructions primarily based on the analysis of marine sediments (though studies on continental archives, e.g. lake sediments, are not strictly excluded). In order to guarantee optimum scientific support, potential research fields for studies to be conducted within the project Paleostudies should be primarily based on the present activities at the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Bremen which focus on high resolution paleoenvironmental proxy analyses and modelling of:

  • Climate and ocean variability on seasonal to million-year time-scales
  • Land-ocean interactions
  • Marine productivity

Here you can find further details on the research fields of the Research Center Ocean Margins.
