Continental Margin Processes

Due to joint activities developed during NEBROC I, NEBROC scientists have been and are involved in the three EU projects ACES, ECOMOUND and GEOMOUND focussing on carbonate mounds. Thus, by now NEBROC scientists are already at the forefront of the exploration of these spectacular mounds. Consequently, the focus of NEBROC activities in the field of Continental Margin Research in NEBROC II will be on the further investigation of these mounds, to which, of course, further matching funds will be sought by the NEBROC consortium. On this way, the NEBROC partners in co-operation with other colleagues have been invited to submit a full proposal called MOUNDFORCE to the ESF-EUROMARGINS programme. In addition, based on the Ocean Margin Research Cluster (OMARC) action has been taken towards the integration of mound related research into a large-scale integrated project within the EU-6th Framework programme.
 
The state of the art of mound related research will be demonstrated to young researchers in the frame of ECOLMAS by two courses offered by Research Theme D scientists: “The Geobiology of Carbonate Mounds” and “The Methane Cycle at Continental Margins”.
